The fear of being “that person”
Even the best estate and letting agents sometimes avoid asking for reviews because they don’t want to seem pushy.
The truth? If you’ve delivered value, solved problems, or gone above and beyond, you’ve earned the right to ask.
The psychology of asking
Here’s the thing. I speak to a lot of agency owners who are fully aware that they (or their team) just don’t ask enough (or at all!).
People genuinely like helping local businesses they trust. They understand that reviews are important - but they’re more likely to write one if you make it easy and ask at the right moment.
Always remember, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.
How to ask without awkwardness
- Be conversational: “I’m so glad we could get this sorted for you. If you wouldn’t mind, could you jot down a quick Google review? It really helps local people in [Town] find us.”
- Use reciprocity: “Thanks again for choosing us. We’d love to shout you out on our socials - and if you could leave us a review too, that would mean a lot.”
- Make it feel natural: Tag the ask to the end of a good news call or email.
Do’s and don’ts for review requests
Do:
- Ask at moments of high satisfaction (the "thank you" moment)
- Provide a direct link (like through our Post a Review widget)
- Remind them their review helps local clients choose with confidence
Don’t:
- Ask when the client is stressed or dealing with an unresolved issue
- Make it sound like a chore
- Leave it too long after the interaction
If you have any success stories where changing internal processes has resulted in more reviews, we’d love to hear from you!
