Blog articles estate agents should stop publishing

For many years, estate and letting agents were told that blogging regularly would help improve their search visibility. The logic seemed simple enough: write more, use local keywords, and search engines will reward you.

Search technology has moved on significantly since then. Modern search engines and AI-driven systems are now far better at distinguishing genuine expertise from filler content.

Publishing large volumes of blog posts no longer improves visibility - unless those articles provide real value.

Some types of content that once appeared across thousands of agency websites now offer very little SEO benefit, and in some cases actively work against you by adding thin or duplicate content to your site.

Below are several examples worth thinking carefully about.

"Property of the week" posts

Many agencies publish weekly articles highlighting a particular property. The problem is that the property listing page already contains the full information.

Creating a separate blog post rarely adds anything new - and search engines typically treat it as duplicate or low-value content. If you want to spotlight a property, do it on social media, where that kind of content actually performs.

"Just listed" announcements

Similar to the above. A blog post announcing a new instruction duplicates what the listing page already does. Search engines don't reward duplication.

The listing page is the right home for listing content.

Generic national property news

Articles summarising national house price headlines or mortgage rate updates were once extremely common. The challenge is that major news organisations, property portals and financial sites already dominate these topics.

Without strong local insight or genuine expert commentary, these articles rarely attract meaningful traffic - and they're not the kind of content that signals local authority to AI tools.

Portal data summaries

Some agency blogs republish statistics taken directly from property portals or public reports - average UK house prices, national transaction volumes, that kind of thing.

Unless the article includes local interpretation and expert analysis, it provides no unique value. Readers can find the original data easily. What they can't find easily is your local insight applied to it.

Very short blog posts

Very short posts - a few paragraphs, minimal substance - were once considered acceptable for SEO purposes.

Today, search engines prioritise content that answers questions clearly, demonstrates expertise and provides meaningful insight.

A post that exists simply to tick a content calendar box doesn't serve readers or search engines well.

Generic tenant advice articles

Letting agent blogs often publish basic tenant advice - "tips for moving into a rental property", "how to prepare for a viewing". These topics are widely and well covered by major lifestyle and property websites. Unless the article includes unique expertise, local relevance or a specific angle that major sites haven't covered, it's unlikely to rank or deliver meaningful traffic.

Boilerplate compliance updates

Letting agents sometimes publish short posts summarising new regulations - a brief mention that new rules are coming, with little else.

Simply repeating a regulatory update without explanation or practical guidance adds limited value.

What landlords actually need is help understanding what the changes mean for them and what they should do about it. That's the article worth writing.

Seasonal filler articles

"Spring is a great time to sell." "Why autumn is perfect for moving." "Top winter property tips." These topics can be useful when written with genuine local insight and expert perspective. But most versions are generic, repetitive and interchangeable with thousands of identical articles across other agency websites. Without something distinctive, they don't stand out to readers or to search engines.

What to focus on instead

Rather than producing large quantities of low-value content, the agencies that build strong online visibility are the ones publishing articles that genuinely help readers.

That means guides explaining the selling or letting process, articles answering the questions sellers and landlords are actually asking, milestone posts that document reviews and achievements, local market insights with real expert commentary and area guides that showcase genuine local knowledge.

Quality over quantity

Search engines increasingly prioritise expertise, credibility, local authority and genuinely helpful information. A handful of well-written articles can deliver more value than dozens of generic posts.

For estate and letting agents, blogging should never be about filling a content calendar. It should be about demonstrating knowledge and building trust online.
